An applicant a commercial pilot licence shall hold A class medical certificate. Regulation (eu) no 1178/2011 aircrew regulation med a 030 medical certificates (f) applicants and holders of a commercial pilot licence (cpl) a multi crew pilot licence (mpl) or an airline transport pilot licence (atpl) shall hold a class 1 medical certificate.

According to part fcl an applicant holding a private or commercial pilot licence aeroplane the issue of an instrument rating shall have completed at least hours of cross country flight time as pic in aeroplanes of which at least hours shall be in aeroplanes the said hours are respectively 75 hours of instrument time of which not more than 3 hours may be instrument ground time. Regulation (eu) no 1178/2011 aircrew regulation fcl 610 ir prerequisites crediting applicants an ir shall (a) hold (1) at least a ppl in appropriate aircraft category and   (i) privileges to fly at night in accordance with fcl 810 or   (ii) an atpl in another category of aircraft or (2) a cpl in appropriate aircraft category (b) have completed at least 50 hours of cross country flight time as pic in aeroplanes helicopters or airships of which at least 10 or in case of airships 20 hours shall be in relevant aircraft category (c) helicopters only applicants who have completed an atp(h)/ir atp(h) cpl(h)/ir or cpl(h) integrated training course shall be exempted from requirement in (b).
